The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has expressed no interest in pursuing the prestigious post of finance minister to be relinquished by Sri Mulyani Indrawati in June.

Neither would the opposition party accept an offer to fill Mulyani’s shoes, PDI-P politician, Maruarar Sirait, told a discussion at the House of Representatives on Thursday.

"We are not interested in the job," Maruarar said, adding that his party would remain consistent with its commitment to playing a role as a balancing force for the government.

Mulyani is set to begin her tenure as one of the World Bank’s managing directors in June.

"If any PDI-P member accepts the job, he or she must resign from the party," Maruarar said.
