House of Representatives lawmaker Ruhut Sitompul of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s Democratic Party asked former National Police detective chief Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji and his family to refrain themselves from turning professional issues into  personal matters.

"Please, do not accuse high ranking police officers of practicing polygamy. Let's not mix professional matters with private bed matters," he said on Tuesday.

Ruhut was responding to Susno's in-law and lawyer Husni Maderi, who complained of alleged discrimination against Susno.

Husni questioned why the police arrested Susno for an alleged fraud while at the same time took no action against a number of high ranking police officers who violated the police code of ethics for marrying more than one women.

Separately, a legislator who insisted to remain anonymous told The Jakarta Post that she had heard about the alleged polygamy practice for quite some time, and one of them was a top police general who was renowned for his police reform program.

"I heard he has two wives. He can't even take care of his crotch, let alone reforming the police," the legislator, who is from one of the government's opposition bloc, said.
